FedEx, UPS and Royal Mail

3 min readUpdated November 4, 2026

Live carrier rates come from the carrier’s own price list, not from costs you type in. WC Currency Switch makes sure the official WooCommerce shipping extensions for FedEx, UPS and Royal Mail keep showing their rates when a shopper pays in another currency. A shopper in Kuwait paying in KWD sees the same FedEx options as a shopper in your store currency, with the costs converted to KWD.

How it works#

Each of these extensions gets its rates in one currency: your FedEx or UPS account currency, or GBP for Royal Mail. WC Currency Switch makes sure the rates are fetched and accepted in your store currency, then converts them to the shopper’s currency like any other shipping rate: exchange rate, then conversion fee, then rounding (see How shipping costs are converted).

Extension What WC Currency Switch does
WooCommerce Shipping FedEx FedEx returns rates in your FedEx account’s currency, and the extension only keeps rates that match the store currency WooCommerce reports. Without help, a shopper in another currency would see no FedEx options at all. While FedEx fetches rates, WC Currency Switch reports your store currency, and it also turns off the extension’s store currency check. The rates are then converted.
WooCommerce Shipping UPS The same as FedEx. In addition, when you send declared or insured values to UPS, they are sent in your store currency, not the shopper’s currency.
WooCommerce Shipping Royal Mail Works without special code. Rates come from Royal Mail’s own GBP price table, based on weight and dimensions, and are converted like any other rate. Royal Mail needs GBP as the store currency.

Set it up#

No setup is needed in WC Currency Switch. The FedEx and UPS handling turns itself on when the extension is active, and Royal Mail works as it is.

  1. Install and set up the carrier extension as usual.
  2. Make sure your FedEx or UPS account currency matches your WooCommerce store currency.
  3. Go to WooCommerce > Currency Switch > Integrations to check the status. FedEx and UPS show INTEGRATION ACTIVE when installed, Royal Mail shows ACTIVE (NATIVE), and a missing extension shows NOT INSTALLED.
  4. Test: switch your store to another currency, add a product to the cart and check that the carrier’s rates appear at the cart or checkout in that currency.

Examples#

FedEx in KWD. Your store currency and FedEx account are in USD. FedEx quotes $20.00 for a delivery. With a KWD rate of 0.307 and no fee or rounding, a shopper paying in KWD sees 20.00 x 0.307 = 6.140 KWD.

UPS with a fee and rounding. Your store and UPS account are in USD. UPS quotes $18.00. The EUR rate is 0.92, with a 2% conversion fee and Round Up to .99:

  1. Rate: 18.00 x 0.92 = 16.56 EUR
  2. Fee: 16.56 x 1.02 = 16.89 EUR
  3. Rounding: 16.99 EUR

Royal Mail in EUR. Your store currency is GBP. Say Royal Mail’s price table gives £3.50 for a parcel. A shopper paying in EUR sees it converted with your GBP to EUR rate, fee and rounding.

Good to know#

  • Account currency matters. While fetching rates, the FedEx and UPS extensions are told your store currency. If your carrier account is in a different currency from your store, set them to match.
  • Other carrier plugins. Only FedEx and UPS get special handling. Other shipping plugins that add their rates in your store currency are converted like any other rate.
  • Settle orders in base currency. With this option on, the cart and checkout are in your store currency, so carrier rates are shown exactly as the carrier returns them.
