Updating the plugin

3 min readUpdated November 4, 2026

New versions of WC Currency Switch bring fixes and improvements, so it is worth keeping the plugin up to date. With an active license, updating works just like any plugin from WordPress.org: WordPress tells you a new version is out and installs it in one click. Without a license you can still update by uploading the new zip by hand. For example, a store owner with an active 5 Sites license sees the update on Dashboard > Updates and installs it on each site in a few seconds.

How it works#

Updates come from wccurrencyswitch.com through SureCart, the service that handles licensing. Your site asks for the latest version only when your license is activated on it. The answer is cached for up to 3 hours, so a new version can take a little while to appear. To ask straight away, go to Dashboard > Updates and click Check again.

Updating replaces the plugin’s files. It does not touch your settings or data.

Update automatically (with a license)#

  1. Make sure your license is active: WooCommerce > Currency Switch > License should show the status Active. If not, see Activating your license.
  2. Go to Dashboard > Updates. When a new version is out, WC Currency Switch is listed under plugins.
  3. Tick it and click Update Plugins. You can also click update now on the Plugins screen.
  4. To install future versions without clicking, click Enable auto-updates next to the plugin on the Plugins screen.

Click View details on the Plugins screen to see the version information and change log before you update.

Update manually (without a license)#

  1. Download the latest wc-currency-switch.zip from your account at wccurrencyswitch.com.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the zip and click Install Now.
  4. WordPress sees that the plugin is already installed and compares the two versions. Click Replace current with uploaded.

Do not delete the plugin first to make room for the new version. Deleting can remove your data if Remove all data when the plugin is deleted is on (see Uninstalling: what is kept and what is removed).

What is kept#

Data After an update
All settings on every tab Kept
Fixed prices on products and variations Kept
Currency and exchange rate saved on each order Kept
Rate history Kept
License activation Kept

Your WooCommerce store currency is not changed by an update.

After updating#

  1. Clear your page cache and your CDN cache, so visitors get pages that load the new version’s scripts.
  2. Check the version number in the header of WooCommerce > Currency Switch, or on the About tab.
  3. Open your shop in a private window and switch currency once to check everything works.

Good to know#

  • No update showing? Check the License tab. If the status is Activation removed or Not activated, activate your license again. Then go to Dashboard > Updates and click Check again.
  • Test on staging first if your store is busy. A staging copy at its own address counts as a separate site on your license.
  • Activating your license
  • Installing WC Currency Switch
  • Uninstalling: what is kept and what is removed
  • Clearing caches when exchange rates change
