Product add-ons and options

4 min readUpdated November 4, 2026

Product add-on plugins let shoppers pick extras on the product page, such as gift wrap, engraving or a bigger size, each with its own price. Those extra prices are stored by the add-on plugin, not by WooCommerce, so WC Currency Switch has a dedicated integration for each supported plugin. For example, if engraving costs 10 USD and a shopper browses in EUR, the engraving option shows in EUR next to the product price in EUR.

How it works#

You enter every add-on price in your store currency (the currency set in WooCommerce, also called the “base currency”). When the plugin detects one of the add-on plugins below, it switches on its integration automatically and converts fixed add-on prices with the same rate, fee and rounding as your product prices. There is nothing to set up.

Percentage add-ons (for example “+10% of the product price”) are not converted themselves. They are worked out from the product price, which is already converted, so the result is right in every currency.

Check what has been detected on WooCommerce > Currency Switch > Integrations, in the WooCommerce Add-ons group. A detected plugin shows INTEGRATION ACTIVE.

Supported plugins#

YITH WooCommerce Advanced Product Options (Premium)#

  • What works: fixed option prices and sale prices are converted on the product page, and the live total preview uses the shopper’s currency symbol.
  • Not converted on purpose: free options and percentage options.
  • Limit: none known.

Product Extras for WooCommerce#

  • What works: field prices and option prices convert on the product page and in the cart, so the amount charged matches the amount shown.
  • Not converted on purpose: options used as plain numbers in calculation fields (options whose price is shown as a value), because they are multipliers, not money.
  • Limit: none known.

WooCommerce Product Add-ons#

  • What works: fixed add-on prices and per-option prices (select, checkbox, radio and image options) convert on the product page, and so does the live running total.
  • Not converted on purpose: percentage-based add-ons.
  • Limit: in the cart, the add-on amount is read straight from the add-on settings, which are in your store currency. The cart then adds that store-currency number to the converted product price. The difference is small when add-on prices are small or the rate is close to 1, but it is there. If add-on prices matter, test the cart total in each currency, or turn on Settle orders in base currency so the cart and checkout run in your store currency.

TM Extra Product Options#

  • What works: fixed-type prices convert, including per word, per character, step, fee and subscription fee types. For percentage options, the plugin converts the product price first and then works out the percentage.
  • Limit: options priced with a math formula are left as they are, so their amounts stay in your store currency.

WooCommerce Gravity Forms Product Add-ons#

  • What works: the product’s own price, the currency symbol, decimals and separators in the live total.
  • Limit: prices typed into Gravity Forms fields are read by Gravity Forms’ own script in your store currency. The running total on the product page then shows the converted product price plus the field prices in your store currency.

Examples#

Your store currency is USD and EUR is set to a fixed rate of 0.92, with no fee and no rounding.

  • A 10.00 USD engraving option shows as 10.00 x 0.92 = 9.20 EUR.
  • A “+10%” option on a 50.00 USD product: the product shows as 46.00 EUR, and the option adds 10% of that, 4.60 EUR.
  • With WooCommerce Product Add-ons, the same 10.00 USD option shows as 9.20 EUR on the product page, but the cart adds 10.00 to the 46.00 EUR product, giving 56.00 instead of 55.20. This is the cart limit described above.

How to test#

  1. Use a staging site, and set a simple Fixed Exchange Rate for a test currency on WooCommerce > Currency Switch > Pricing so the maths is easy to check.
  2. In a private browser window, switch to that currency and open a product with add-ons.
  3. Pick a fixed-price option and a percentage option. Check the option labels and the live total.
  4. Add the product to the cart and compare the cart line with the product page total.
  5. Repeat for each add-on type you use (text fields, checkboxes, formulas).
Tip

Test while logged out or in a private window. Background requests that a store manager or administrator sends through WordPress’s admin-ajax.php are kept in the store currency, so a logged-in admin can see store-currency amounts in a live preview that a shopper would see converted.

  • How converted prices are worked out
  • Fixed exchange rates
  • Checkout currency options
  • Product bundles and composites
