Quick answers to the questions store owners ask most about WC Currency Switch. Each answer points you to the doc with the full details. If your question is about something going wrong, the troubleshooting docs in this section walk you through it step by step.

Prices and products#

Does it change my product prices in the database? No. Prices stay in your store currency (the currency set in WooCommerce, also called the “base currency”). The plugin converts them each time a page is shown.

How is a converted price worked out? Store price x exchange rate (or the currency’s fixed rate), then the conversion fee, then rounding. For example, 20 USD at a EUR rate of 0.92 with a 2% fee is 20 x 0.92 = 18.40, then 18.40 x 1.02 = 18.768, then rounding. See How converted prices are worked out.

Can I set exact prices for some products? Yes. Set fixed prices per product or variation for each currency. Fixed prices skip the rate, fee and rounding. See Fixed prices for products and variations.

Are coupons and shipping converted? Yes. Fixed-amount coupons (fixed cart and fixed product) are converted. Percentage coupons need no conversion. Shipping costs are converted after your shipping methods work them out. See Free shipping minimums, coupons and the price filter and How shipping costs are converted.

Switching and SEO#

Does switching currency add ?currency= to the URL? No. The switcher saves a cookie and either reloads the same URL (Reload mode, the default) or swaps the prices without a reload (Instant mode, beta). Your analytics and search engines see one page. A ?wccs_cur=EUR link is available for emails and ads, and the parameter is removed from the address bar after the page loads.

How long is a shopper’s choice remembered? 30 days by default, set under General > Cookie Lifetime (days).

Will Google index prices in several currencies? No. Search engine crawlers arrive without a currency cookie, so they are treated like any first-time visitor: they get the currency for the country they crawl from (if it is enabled), or your default currency.

Checkout and orders#

Which currency are orders paid in? The one the shopper chose, unless you turn on Settle orders in base currency. Then the cart, checkout and order use your store currency. Express pay buttons on product pages still charge the currency shown on that page. See Checkout currency options.

Does it work with the block cart and checkout? Yes, including express payment buttons. Changing currency by billing or shipping country is the one feature that needs the classic checkout.

Does it work with HPOS? Yes. The plugin is declared compatible with High-Performance Order Storage (WooCommerce’s newer order tables).

Why do I see my store currency in the admin? The WordPress admin and WooCommerce Analytics use your store currency for administrators and shop managers, so reports add up. Each order keeps the currency it was paid in, and its Currency Info box shows the order total, the saved rate and the equivalent in your store currency.

Rates and settings#

What happens if the rate provider is down? The last good rates keep being used, and the plugin tries the provider again after 60 seconds.

What if I change the store currency in WooCommerce? The plugin follows it: the new store currency becomes the plugin’s Default Currency and is added to your enabled currencies if it was not there.

Can I turn off my store currency in the switcher? No. The store currency is always offered.

Developers and design#

Can I use my own flag images? Yes, with the wccs_flag_base_url filter. See Filters and actions.

Does it support right-to-left languages? Yes. Set dir="rtl" on your page’s html element. Currency codes and symbols keep left-to-right direction.
